Hello World!

My name is Jonathan Caddy and I find myself in sunny Glasgow, Scotland. I really don’t want to ramble on about myself as it’s always a bit tedious to read. On review, looks like I have rambled… TLDR

I have set up this site simply to keep a record of my coding activity. I have a full-time day job managing an IT department but my passion is software development - mainly web, but now branching out into these new app gizmos all the kids are talking about. Been at it for a while - but for me the cloud has absolutely revolutionised what can be achieved without a data-centre and cash to spare. To be able to sit in a coffee shop and build a global scale service with only a single IT asset - my laptop - astonishes me. Be astonished!

There are clouds out there and time is limited. I have focused on Microsoft Azure - so AWS and GCP are still mysterious forces to be explored at some later date when I have time. But who can argue with MS when, for a £6 p/m subscription, I can grab myself an M365 tenant and a full Azure environment, much of which can be explored and experimented with for next to nothing.

My dev stack mostly follows MS too, so C# with .NET/ASPNET, with some front-end HTML/CSS/Javascript/Typescript and frameworks. Still love KnockoutJS but have been building web front-ends with Aurelia - lesser-known but amazing framework. Signed up for a Vue course as an alternative to Aurelia and also delving into MAUI to build mobile apps. Cool kids like Flutter, React-Native etc., but I want to capitalise on all the C# and .NET I have acquired over the years. But, as I keep saying, when I have time…
